Learning for Life (LFL) workshops and seminars: This is an educational program with the expected outcome of promoting adherence to the prescribed treatment, improving psychosocial and emotional well-being, reducing feelings of isolation, stigma, and related mental stressors, and empowering families in self-advocacy


  • Meet & Greet (M&G) at local hospitals: This program currently holds at the Hospital for Sick Children to ensure new families attending the hemoglobinopathy clinic are aware of the SCAGO and the resources the organization offers.


  • Peers and Families (P&P) Support Network: This is a safe and non-judgemental space for peers and their families to meet and support one another.

This event is an Accredited Group Learning Activity (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification Program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, approved by the University of Ottawa Faculty of Medicine. You may claim a maximum of 7.5 hours (credits are automatically calculated).


This year’s summit will be delivered in person, featuring two days of presentations with a comprehensive program for healthcare providers, health system leaders, health policymakers, government officials, researchers, patients, caregivers, advocates, and industry partners!


This year’s summit has two learning tracks:

-Clinician Track (for medical professionals)

-Community Track (people affected by sickle cell disease, students, policymakers etc)
