Sickle Cell Clinic team, Health Sciences North
Established in 2025, Health Sciences North / Horizon Santé-Nord now operates a dedicated sickle cell disease program serving individuals and families in Sudbury and surrounding communities. The clinic is staffed by a multidisciplinary team, including a hematologist, nurse, and social worker, and receives referrals from primary care providers across the region.
Advancing access to care closer to home is central to the mandate of the Sickle Cell Awareness Group of Ontario (SCAGO). The launch of this program represents a significant milestone in strengthening sickle cell disease care and treatment capacity in Northern Ontario.
SCAGO is pleased to collaborate with Health Sciences North to support the delivery of timely, coordinated, and high- care for individuals living with sickle cell disease in the region.
With the increasing number of cross provincial migration and international students flocking the four universities located in Northern Ontario (Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Laurentian University in Sudbury, Nipissing University in North Bay, and Algoma University in Sault Ste. Marie), and the six colleges (Confederation College in Thunder Bay, Sault College in Sault Ste. Marie, Northern College in Timmins, Canadore College in North Bay, and the anglophone Cambrian College and francophone Collège Boréal in Sudbury) it became doubly important to utilize equity lens in providing resources and support for patients and families in this region.
