Professor of Medicine, Dept of Medical Oncology and Hematology
Dr Rajat Kumar is currently a Professor of Medicine, University of Toronto and Hematologist, in the Allogeneic BMT program at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, Toronto. He was previously Head of malignant hematology for 5 years.
He is from India, where he was a Professor of Hematology, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi, where he had set up a bone marrow transplant program with focus on thalassemia. He then relocated to Canada in 2008 and was a Hematologist and Professor, University of Manitoba, Winnipeg.
He has a special interest in Transplants in Sickle Cell Disease and started transplants for adult patients with sickle cell disease in Toronto. He is also the local Principal investigator for a Gene therapy trial in sickle cell disease and thalassemia. He is currently co-chair of the Hemoglobinopathy Working Group of Cell Therapy Transplant Canada (CTTC).
